Murray developed a solution with a sweet tasting syrup which made drinking the mixture palatable, especially for children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Murray was born in&nbsp;Derry&nbsp;in 1788 and trained at the Edinburgh College of Surgeons&nbsp;where he became a&nbsp;licentiate&nbsp;in midwifery in 1807.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">After receiving his qualification, Murray was appointed the resident medical officer at a hospital in&nbsp;Belfast.
