{"id":1196,"date":"2021-12-01T11:21:00","date_gmt":"2021-12-01T11:21:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/drtomstours.com\/?p=1196"},"modified":"2021-11-30T12:20:52","modified_gmt":"2021-11-30T12:20:52","slug":"walking-tours-are-the-most-popular-event-for-the-esrc-festival-of-social-science-in-northern-ireland","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/drtomstours.com\/index.php\/2021\/12\/01\/walking-tours-are-the-most-popular-event-for-the-esrc-festival-of-social-science-in-northern-ireland\/","title":{"rendered":"Walking tours are the most popular event for the ESRC Festival of Social Science in Northern Ireland"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The free walking tours, titled the story of Belfast\u2019s streets, were the most popular events held in Northern Ireland as part of the Economic and Social Research Council\u2019s Festival of Social Science.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"section-gf95288\" class=\"wp-block-gutentor-e6 section-gf95288 gutentor-element gutentor-element-image\"><div class=\"gutentor-element-image-box\"><div class=\"gutentor-image-thumb\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"normal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/drtomstours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/IMG-2748-scaled-e1637075072367.jpg\" \/><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The Festival ran through the entire month of November 2021 and is an annual celebration of the social sciences held throughout the UK.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">This year, over 300 events were held hosted by 34 partners, and the walks held in Belfast were organised by myself and Queen\u2019s University Belfast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">One hundred and forty-four people attended eight walks that were led by a team of nine tour guides who had recently completed the Belfast Green Badge course.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The Green Badge is a qualification awarded by the Institute of Tourist Guiding that assesses the skills and knowledge of guides and certifies them to lead tours in a designated geographical area such as Belfast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">The professional organisation for guides who hold qualifications awarded by the ITG in Northern Ireland is NITGA, the <a href=\"https:\/\/nitga.co.uk\/?gclid=Cj0KCQiAtJeNBhCVARIsANJUJ2HTvpcBLOIAlCa0j9kF3YnjM1Cs_cTv0Y0lIWxCgF717tr9E_vXe0MaAt_UEALw_wcB\">Northern Ireland Tourist Guide Association.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The free walking tours, titled the story of Belfast\u2019s streets, were the most popular events held in Northern Ireland as part of the Economic and Social Research Council\u2019s Festival of Social Science.
