The area affected is show in the graphic below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"section-g11ee1b\" class=\"wp-block-gutentor-e6 section-g11ee1b gutentor-element gutentor-element-image\"><div class=\"gutentor-element-image-box\"><div class=\"gutentor-image-thumb\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"normal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/drtomstours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Fire-raid-7.5.41-scaled.jpg\" \/><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Around 1\u00a0am,\u00a0Luftwaffe\u00a0bombers flew over the city, concentrating their attack on the Harbour Estate and Queen&#8217;s Island. Nearby residential areas in east Belfast were also hit when 203 metric tonnes of high explosive bombs, 80 land mines attached to parachutes, and 800 firebomb canisters containing 96,000 incendiary bombs <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Belfast_Blitz#cite_note-Belfast_2011-16\"><\/a>\u00a0were dropped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"section-g18f0f7\" class=\"wp-block-gutentor-e6 section-g18f0f7 gutentor-element gutentor-element-image\"><div class=\"gutentor-element-image-box\"><div class=\"gutentor-image-thumb\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"normal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/drtomstours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/high-street-belfast.jpg\" \/><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Over 150 people lost their lives in what became known as the &#8216;Fire Blitz&#8217;.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Sunday 4\u20135 May 1941, three weeks after the Easter Tuesday raid, Belfast suffered its third bombing raid.
