{"id":2070,"date":"2022-10-12T08:31:00","date_gmt":"2022-10-12T08:31:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/drtomstours.com\/?p=2070"},"modified":"2022-11-29T18:37:33","modified_gmt":"2022-11-29T18:37:33","slug":"winecellar-entry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/drtomstours.com\/index.php\/2022\/10\/12\/winecellar-entry\/","title":{"rendered":"Winecellar entry"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Belfast Entries are a series of historical narrow alleyways in the city centre of Belfast, Northern Ireland, mostly in the vicinity of High Street and Ann Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"section-ge39106\" class=\"wp-block-gutentor-e6 section-ge39106 gutentor-element gutentor-element-image\"><div class=\"gutentor-element-image-box\"><div class=\"gutentor-image-thumb\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"normal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/drtomstours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/20220128_124651-scaled.jpg\" \/><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When the town was first laid out in the early 17<sup>th<\/sup> century, these alleyways serviced dense residential and commercial development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The surviving examples retain pockets of historic development. The alley named Winecellar Entry gained its name in the early-19th century due to the number of winecellars and wine sellers that had been established along the alley.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The first pub in Belfast was probably in Winecellar Entry. In 1630, a tavern was granted a license to sell alcohol. The building that White\u2019s bar is located today in dates from the 1790s and replaced an earlier structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"section-g9814aa\" class=\"wp-block-gutentor-e6 section-g9814aa gutentor-element gutentor-element-image\"><div class=\"gutentor-element-image-box\"><div class=\"gutentor-image-thumb\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"normal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/drtomstours.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/20210223_110656-scaled.jpg\" \/><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next door to White\u2019s Inn are the Oyster Rooms. These were established in 1868, by proprietor John Walker, a fish monger and spirit merchant.
