The building, which has most recently been used as a courthouse, is a Grade B1 listed building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In 1842, the Corporation Council believed they needed a dedicated town hall. The site they selected was a former pork market in Victoria Street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new building was designed in the Italianate style by Anthony Jackson using red brick with sandstone dressings. It was completed in 1871.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Town Hall fell out of use 30 years later with the construction of Belfast City Hall and the building became a police courtroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do you want to learn more about the history of Belfast?
