{"id":2565,"date":"2023-03-26T15:43:56","date_gmt":"2023-03-26T15:43:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/drtomstours.com\/?p=2565"},"modified":"2022-12-11T15:44:12","modified_gmt":"2022-12-11T15:44:12","slug":"donegall-street-congregational-church","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/drtomstours.com\/index.php\/2023\/03\/26\/donegall-street-congregational-church\/","title":{"rendered":"Donegall Street Congregational Church"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Congregational Church tabernacle was built in 1805 and was described of \u2018spartan simplicity\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A second church was built on this site in 1858 and constructed in the \u2018primeval Gothic design\u2019 using \u2018Scrabo stone\u2019 quarried in Co. Down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On&nbsp; 15 March 1931 the church was destroyed by a catastrophic fire that destroyed the organ. The repaired building was opened in 1934.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The church had the further misfortune of being badly damaged during the Belfast Blitz of April\/May 1941.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Congregational Church, saw \u2018dwindling numbers\u2019 of parishioners leave the church and it vacated the building in 2009.
