{"id":2624,"date":"2023-05-01T05:25:00","date_gmt":"2023-05-01T05:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/drtomstours.com\/?p=2624"},"modified":"2022-12-12T12:01:21","modified_gmt":"2022-12-12T12:01:21","slug":"kings-hall-south-belfast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/drtomstours.com\/index.php\/2023\/05\/01\/kings-hall-south-belfast\/","title":{"rendered":"King\u2019s Hall, south Belfast"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Kings Hall at the Balmoral Showgrounds was constructed in 1933-34 as a permanent exhibition hall for the Royal Ulster Agricultural Society and was officially opened in 1934.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The RUSA immediately put the Kings Hall to use for a variety of purposes such as exhibitions, evangelical meetings, boxing and wrestling contests and circuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the Second World War, it became an aircraft factory for Short Bros. &amp; Harland in order to construct fuselages for Stirling Bombers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In later decades the hall would also be used for music concerts; the Beatles famously performed there in 1964. Other artists who performed there included Cliff Richard, Diana Ross, David Bowie, Nirvana, Bruce Springsteen, Boyzone, and U2 supported by Lou Reed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The site is currently being redeveloped as a business and health park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a>Do you want to learn more about the history of Belfast?
