Glentoran Football Club is a professional football club that plays in the Northern Ireland Football League Premiership. The club was founded in 1882.
In 1914, Glentoran won the Vienna Cup, becoming the second British team to win a European trophy.
Its stadium is Oval and they’ve been there since 1892.
From 1882 to 1886, Glentoran used Ormeau Park as their home ground and then they moved to Westbourne in Ballymacarrett for six years until 1892.
During the early 20th century, the land on which The Oval stood was given in perpetuity to Glentoran by the Lord Mayor of Belfast, Daniel Dixon.
In 1941, the stadium was severely damaged by German bombing during the Belfast blitz as it was located near the docks. The damaged caused to the facility meant it was unusable until 1949.
The stadium was refurbished with a new stand built in 2000 and can hold6,050 people.
