The White Star Line (WSL) in the late 19th century became one of the most prominent shipping lines in the world, providing passenger and cargo services between the British Empire and North America. It focused on luxury rather than speed.
Today, it is remembered for the innovative ships and tragic losses. It launched revolutionary vessels like the Oceanic and Oceanic II and saw notable sinkings such as the loss of the Atlantic in 1873, Republic in 1909 and, most famously, loss of the Titanic in 1912.
